the women were trying to get one over on the men to more modern fare where in The New Adventures of Old Christine the women are somewhat equal in regard
to humorous attacks. The past shows reveal true gender stratification where the men were their stereotypical selves and the women were plotting and beguiling. Some of the women remain in
these roles, but things have changed. Since Mary Tyler Moore threw her hat up in the air during the 1970s, in the introduction to the Mary Tyler Moore Show, women
are more independent. As a result, the humor directed at women is more indicative of equality, and less reliant on stereotypes. Men and women do not embrace the old stereotypes
anymore and the world is now able to laugh at men and women equally. Similarly, a more serious tone has entered situation comedy where in some instances all does not
end well, the tone of the music changes, and something significant is revealed. This evolution in situation comedy is reflective of a society that shuns stereotypes and bigotry, leading more
