- and debated - theories surrounds the issues of how dreams and the unconscious commingle to represent some of the deeper, unacknowledged elements of the human mind.
Dreams, according to Freud (1983), harbor the repression of ones unconscious personality characteristics, a theory that many believe to be the most significant milestone of his
career. That the unconscious is a viable and true entity tells man that he, in fact, does not have such control or even the ability to know himself the
way he might think he does, a realization that gives rise to the question of what holds responsibility for ones actions. Through Freuds (1983) theory of repression, one gains
a significantly better understanding of how "the moral nature of man persists even in dreams" and, thereby, ensures that a person is just as responsible for what happens in his
unconscious mind as he is when his thoughts are both lucid and conscious. If an individual has ever attempted to make sense out
of dream by molding it into logical order, that person has experienced a humanistic element of Freuds (1983) theory, inasmuch as mankinds mortal desire to make sense out of things
that are nonsensical speaks to the notion of creating an awareness or order. A prime example of this is evident in everyday life, where people strive to expound upon
