Essay / Research Paper Abstract
3 pages in length. The relationship between free markets and individual liberty is an otherwise complementary union that is suffering a tremendous setback amidst the current state of the economy. It has long been the case how America's capitalist economic system is a "fit" with the nation's principles and form of government; only recently have these constitutional tenets undergone extreme tests of their collective strength where the United States economy is concerned. The extent to which free market capitalism works synergistically with individual liberty is both grand and far-reaching; having approved more than $700 billion to bail out a broken, untrustworthy financial sector sent a strong message to the American people that saving poorly-run industries demands more attention than upholding their individual liberties. of Americas declining "classical" liberal traditions that gave birth to her, United States citizens are losing many of their individual liberties within what is called a free society, ultimately serving
to erode the capitalistic base upon which it was founded - the only economic system which can truly uphold and protect these rights. In Capitalism and Freedom, Milton Friedman
contends competitive capitalism has a pertinent role in society when most economic activity travels through private enterprise within a free market environment. In his book Why Government is the
Problem, the author questions assumptions that claim the will of the majority is always the correct one, stating how the goal of government should be to secure freedom, equality, and
