person with interesting tid bits of information. While the book is a fast read, as it is well written, one has to wonder whether or not the major arguments of
the book are convincing. After all, there are many things authors tie to economics that are not traditionally found in this area. Examples in the book are crack cocaine dealers
and their lifestyles as well as why good parenting practices are related to higher education. Another topic is the role of abortion in terms of crime commission. The topics are
varied, but one has to wonder what unrelated topics have to do with one another. Each of the topics are explored and discussed in an economic light. For
example, in the chapter "What make a perfect parent?" authors look at the "economic theory of self interest" and describe it as equated with the fact that a woman planning
to put up her baby for adoption will not care for herself the same way as someone who is keeping the baby (Levitt & Dubner, 2005). It is perfectly rational.
After all, someone who plans to keep a baby would be extremely careful and listen to the doctors orders, but a woman who is willing to give that baby up
may do things in her own interests and not the babys. This could make for a different outcome in the health of the newborn. Also, it should be said that
the authors have numerous footnotes at the end of the piece to document some of the ideas that they spout in the context of the work. For instance, they note
information about the broken window theory and a good article of reference for it (Levitt & Dubner, 2005). In sociology, the broken window theory is the idea that once
