the need for litigation. The system was very effective in its early years and operated very closely to its original intent. However, as time passed and the system
grew both in size and in terms of bureaucracy, workers compensation indeed continues to provide these benefits to many employees, but the system has become very corrupt as well resulting
in widespread employee and doctor deception and ever-rising costs for business owners. The problem of abuse within the workers compensation system
is a very real and significant one. There exists within the content of workers compensation legal directives to protect employers from fraud and abuse, and in a perfect world
these measures would work to ensure the integrity of the system 1. But clearly we do not live in a perfect world, and the unfortunate reality is that employees
