to create a method of helping people called logotherapy. In explaining the concept, Frankl (1959) explains that the idea is rather intricate. The author does however relay a summary of
concepts, but the actual methodology is much more complex than what is contained in this bonus chapter in his autobiographical piece. Still, Frankl (1959) coveys a great deal of knowledge
in the pages of this work that provides information on logotherapy. Logotherapy is meaning-centered psychotherapy where the past is not explored, but the future is examined (Frankl, 1959). It pays
to note that todays psychotherapeutic methods are not in line with traditional Freudian psychoanalysis and is perhaps more in tune with Frankls ideas. Frankl (1959) adds: "At the same time,
logotherapy defocuses all the vicious-circle formations and feedback mechanisms which play such a great role in the development of neurosis. Thus, the typical self-centeredness of the neurotic, is broken up
instead of being continually fostered and reinforced" (120). Here, rather than focus on the self alone, the client is exposed to issues related to meaning. Hence, menial issues are discarded
and mans quest for greater meaning is put forth. An important point made by Frankl (1959) is that mans search for meaning is primary and not a secondary rationalization related
to instinctual drives. This is a bold position. For instance, when someone has an experience that might be considered to be spiritual or religious, many psychiatrists or psychologists will see
it as a way to make sense of the world. They may call it wish fulfillment or a delusion, or any number of things to explain why the individual is
having the experience. They will not say that man is searching for meaning, or rather that he has found something important. A good example of this is the near death
