truth is that there are many similarities. Both stories deal with a fantasy wherein human beings can be constructed, and both deal with the emotional, and moral, elements associated with
that ability. The following paper compares the two as they relate to the issues of man playing god, the role of parent, and the dangers of exploration/technology. Frankenstein and
Blade Runner In both of the stories being examined human beings play God. Frankenstein takes it upon himself to create a human being, something only God can do. In Blade
Runner the same is true, but it is in the past and present that people have tried to bring life to something that is actually a robot. In both, however,
the beings possess an understanding that goes beyond being made by man. They possess emotions and they possess the ability to think like humans. Humans have played at being God
in both stories and they suffer the consequences of taking on such a project. In both stories there is also the sense that the creations have been abandoned by
their makers. In Blade Runner it seems that the creator of the previous replicants, those who do harm and are set upon killing humans, are essentially left alone and they
are clearly emotionally distraught at being unloved and uncared for by humans, their parents. They seek vengeance. The only replicant that is loved and cared for is a more perfect,
less violent experiment, Rachael. In Frankenstein the monster is immediately unloved and abandoned by Frankenstein who thinks his creation is a horror. He spends the entire book running from his
creation. In Blade Runner there is a great deal of focus on trying to kill all the replicants because they pose a danger. In essence, playing God means being a
