of many different things, many realities, and many social problems. It is a story wherein one could argue the theme was about taking responsibility for ones actions, a story of
abandonment, and a story about the dangers of science. The following paper examines the significance of Shelleys subtitle, "The Modern Prometheus. The Modern Prometheus In first examining the subtitle
we must understand that Prometheus was a man who was punished for stealing fire from the heavens and giving it to mankind. Frankenstein is such a man. He is a
man guilty of doing something that only the gods, or actually God, could do. It is also reflective of the new age
of man, a primitive man who has not learned enough lessons where the subject of science is concerned. He is not in a position, a position of wisdom, that would
allow for such behavior and action. However, what makes Frankenstein different is that there is no supreme being, like Zeus, there to punish him. He punishes himself, and the monster
punishes him. Frankenstein is a brilliant man but a man who is not really ready for dealing with his intelligence in scientific means. He is not wise enough to
understand the consequences of what he has done, and this is reflective of Prometheus who also had no idea what he was really doing in terms of consequences and ramifications.
He is smart, but he is not wise. He understands science but he is not evolved enough, not enlightened enough, to deal with the consequences of that science. If we,
as human beings, are not evolved enough to handle such scientific realities there is a clear symbolic relationship to primitive man, the mythical man, or Prometheus. Frankenstein was only a
