behind the world of the Baroque art and moved strongly into the 19th century (Image One, Inc., 2010). One of his paintings is Duel with Clubs. The following paper discusses
Goya and this painting. Francisco de Goyas Duel with Clubs Goya was born in 1746 and began his artistic endeavors at
a relatively early age. "Born in Zaragoza, Spain, he found employment as a young teenager under the mediocre artist Jos? Luz?n, from whom he learned to draw and as was
customary, copied prints of several masters" (Image One, Inc., 2010). He seems to be one of those famous painters who was influenced by some artists but not necessarily powerfully influenced,
nor powerfully taught, thus resulting in an artist with his own very unique style and voice. It is noted that he went to Madrid when he was 17 and there
he was influenced by the painters "Tiepolo and the rather cold and efficient neo-classical painter-Antonio Raphael Mengs" (Image One, Inc., 2010). Goya was very strongly influenced by things that
were taking place around him, primarily those things that were political and military in nature. He was profoundly touched by many images and thus painted events that were news at
the time. For example, "the population of Madrid rose up in a spontaneous revolt against the occupation forces of the puppet King of Spain, Joseph Bonaparte, brother of Napoleon" (Micchelli,
