with health issues, becoming deaf, and a man who was capable of keeping himself out of political trouble in very tumultuous times. The following paper offers this thesis: Goya was
a unique man whose art will remain timeless and relevant. His Life: A Synopsis As noted Goya was born in
Spain in the middle of the 18th century. He was born in a very tumultuous time period and also a time period that saw many other great artists. This simple
element of his life presents a main point that connects to the fact that he was truly a man of his times, born in perhaps the right time at the
right place. In understanding this one author notes that as Goyas life neared its end he was living in exile and wrote his autobiography wherein he stated: "He was born
in Fuendetodos in the kingdom of Aragon in 1746, and was appointed Painter to the Court in 1780; later he became First Painter. Because of his advanced years he is
now retired. He was a pupil of Don Jose Luzan in Zaragoza, learning from his own invention when he visited Rome. He has no master aside from his own invention
and has found most profit from watching the techniques of other artists and studying the famous works to be seen in Rome and Spain" (Ciofalo 1). In this simple
