nature and its capacity to misconstrue, exaggerate and disproportionate what might otherwise be considered objective truth. Bacon asserts how people are very narrow-minded when it comes to accepting concepts
for what they truly are, choosing instead to put a spin on something that inevitably misplaces any objectivity that may have originally existed. Moreover, when man is presented with
indisputable knowledge, he still finds a way to question its validity even though he has no way to support his own skepticism. Bacons The Four Idols helps to show
the effectiveness of this thesis by outlining the tremendous inadequacy of mans self-seeking approach to objectively understanding the truth of his existence and of the universe around him. Bacon strives
to make a collective point through his four idols, or images -- Idols of the Tribe, Cave, Marketplace and Theatre -- by equating mans capacity for creating deceptive notions with
his Idols of the Tribe, which he attributes as being applicable only to the human mind. These erroneous abstracts develop from mans ever-present need to embellish and distort the
truth (Zagorin, 2001). The concept of individualism is spotlighted in Idols of the Cave by virtue of mans narrow-minded perception of the world around him; as such, he bases
