are models such as the military, or the church or an overbearing mother who had drummed limits into an individuals head. Communication problems are also contained in this
model introduced by Bacon. More specifically, Bacon describes the effects of "human attachment to the fictions created by language, tradition, custom and imagination" (Honderich, 1995, 393). It is an interesting
subject to ponder. People are seemingly run by the social and linguistic creations conjured by common concerns. Man has needs and they are met by the culture, which is why
it is difficult to trust these idols of which Bacon speaks. The Idols of the Tribe generally have to do with weaknesses or tendencies of the human being and they
are individual in nature ("Francis," 2005). Astrology is a good example because it fulfills an individuals needs to know the future as well as to assist wishful thinking. Praying is
another good example as is wishing. These things are set up to provide a sense of contentment and for people to be entrenched in ideas that things are what they
would like them to be. However, it sets people up for failure. When they have a problem, they may pray about it or wish things were different, but they are
not doing anything about the situation. They may look in several newspapers to find an astrology forecast that meets their desires. All of these coping techniques sets people up for
failure. Eventually, their wishes will come true or the will not. If things do not go their way, they will not only be disappointed, they may have lost time by
