Buddhism is one of the worlds most prominent religions. There are, of course, dozens of different schools of Buddhist philosophy throughout the
world. These schools, or sects, may have different writings and languages. There is no one single "Bible" of Buddhism, but all Buddhists share some basic themes. Four themes in
particular are interesting within the context of Buddhism. These themes are ultimate reality, the nature of self, death, and ethics. As will be seen in the discussion below,
in Buddhism all of these themes interblend and there really cannot be one without the others. As Prayukvong and Bronwen (2011) emphasize, Buddhism
"manifests differently in different cultural contexts" (p. 75). There are dozens of different schools of Buddhist philosophy throughout the world. Buddhism has evolved in distinct variations as
it has blended with other religions and been molded by geographic isolation and other factors. The underlying themes, however, are similar. The most important of Buddhisms themes is that
there is no beginning and no end, no Creation, and no Heaven. In a sermon at Benares, which Buddhists hold in the same reverence as Christians do the Sermon on
