In order of importance, Maslows (1998) hierarchy pyramid reflects the four basic needs that must first be realized before the one growth need can ever be undertaken: 1. Self-actualization
- growth 2. Self-esteem - basic 3. Social acceptance - basic 4. Security basic 5. Survival - basic (Maslow, 1998; Huitt, 2004).
Through the duality of self-exploration and action, people take two critical steps toward self-actualization, a concept that motivates human beings to strive for accomplishment - both personally and professionally -
realize their unmitigated capacity for fulfillment. Characteristics of self-actualizers include self acceptance; spontaneity, simplicity, naturalness; autonomy; peak experiences; interpersonal relations; democratic values and attitudes; creativity; imperfections; and values (Maslow,
