Foucaults perception regarding the way in which art and life interact is a complex one, particularly in view of the way he constructed his own life and his own viewpoint
on individuality. Haber (2001) points out that the concept of point of view in art allowed a number of evolutionary developments, particularly in terms of realism, such as the comprehension
and utilisation of perspective and the development of a style which was based on the notion of a privileged viewpoint.
In effect, the work of art consisted of what the artists
viewpoint dictated, both in terms of the structure of the work - angle, perspective, distance and so on - and the content. From a cultural standpoint, that which appeared in
the finished work was the way in which the artist interpreted the cultural infrastructure from which he had originated; it was, in both sense of the word, a personal viewpoint.
