Fosters range was first brewed in 1888, however, then, as now, there were cost pressures and to cut costs the Fosters Brewing Company merged with four other Australian breweries in
1907 as companies suffered due to a long economic recession (Fosters, 2007). The resulting brewery was known as the Carlton and United Breweries (CUB) (Fosters, 2007). The company traversed
the twentieth century, gradually adding to its portfolio of products with internal brand development and acquisition and became leading beverage company in Australia. Which, as well as Fosters Large also
includes brands such as Crown and Victoria Bitter (Fosters, 2007). Just as CUB was expanding and growing, so was Beringer Wine Estates, a wine estate founded in 1876, and Mildara
Wines company were also growing and acquiring or development new brands, such as Jamiesons Rum. In another part of the country, at Barossa Valley in 1966 Wolf Blass Wines was
founded, this company was merged with Mildara in 1991 then, in 1996 Fosters acquired Mildara and entered the wine market (Fosters, 2007). Beringer Wine Estates was brought into the Fosters
fold when it merged with Mildara Blass in 2001 (Fosters, 2007). This created a large wine interest as well as the beers and spirits. The company had a ranger
of interests, but between 2003 and 2004 there was a further shift in strategy as the on beverage interests that had been developed were sold off, these included the Lensworth
