brilliant, mentally challenged, and yet seems to achieve a life that is wondrous and magical. Through the film Forrest is introduced to many different agents of socialization. The following essay
examines the agents of socialization Forrest encounters. Forrest Gump and Agents of Socialization Clearly the most important agent of socialization for Forrest is his family, that being his
mother. He is being raised by only her and yet she is a powerful foundation of possibilities for Forrest. She believes that even though he may be slow he is
not stupid and he should never let people make him think that he is stupid. She encourages him powerfully and lays the foundation for all that is possible in Forrests
life. This si because she ensures that he does not feel he is limited to remain handicapped, mentally or physically, for his life and this enables him to never think
twice about doing things "normal" people do in their lives. One could argue that Forrest also encounters the agent that is school. But, in the film one cannot see
any influence school may have had on him. What the viewer does see is the school years, him going to school with his friend Jenny, and other school boys bullying
him. As such one could well argue that the agent of school as a socialization agent, made Forrest realize there were dangers from other people, yet also pushed him to
be stronger. At the same time the agent of school is taking place Forrest is encountering a strange agent involving the boarding house his mother runs. In this one
could argue it was a peer group that was the agent. He learns from various tenants in the house, talking to people and learning from different people. In this he
