1. Introduction For any company there will be a reliance on the employees. For large companies there may be sufficient latitude to carry some lower producing employees. However, in a company such as Knotweed Eradication and Control Services, where there will only be a few employees, the need to recruit the right employees of paramount importance. There is a plethora of data that indicates the value of employees and the way that competitive advantage may be gained through human capital (Porter, 1985, Mintzberg et al, 1998). The proprietor may start out with only a single employee, as such a great deal of importance will attach the value adding activities of that employee, meaning that the right person should be recruited. If the company is successful there will also be major advantages in developing a recruitment policy that is suitable to be used as the company gets larger. Many theories consider mass recruitment, or the recruitment of employees to be a part of a large organisations, where there are large resources and experts can be drafted in to assess candidates. The business in this case may not be seen as directly benefiting form these theories, but the lesson are applicable now and in the future. By looking at the various theories of recruitment and HRM we can consider how the recruitment policy can be best developed for this company. 2.
