influence all aspects of business, are becoming even more and more varied and urgent in an ever-changing world. In the following paper we discuss some of the forms of thought,
and variety of forces of influence, that affect problem recognition/identification and decision framing as they involve managerial responsibilities. The forms of thought discussed are logical, scientific, persuasive, and creative. The
forces of influence discussed are gender, culture, and religion. Thoughts and Forces As mentioned, a variety of approaches to management is necessary during these changing times. Traditional methods
of approach are no longer as viable as they once were. Gayeski and Majka (1996) state that "Traditional linear theories of communication, persuasion and management cannot sufficiently describe the fluid,
multichanneled and at times disorganized communication in many organizations. Communication professionals who want to effectively deal with modern communication would do well to rely instead on chaos theory and complexity
theory because they are more reflective of the realities of modern-day organizational communication" (p. 22). Now, while this does not specifically address the various forms of thought being discussed herein,
it does illustrate that there is a very urgent need for open-mindedness in terms of thought approaches. What this essentially means is that when a problem arises, and decision
framing for solutions is required, one cannot rely solely on one form of thought. For example, creative thought may help to come up with an alternative, or an approach that
may prove beneficial. But, it cannot be utilized all by itself and create the necessary change. Scientific thought, along with logical and persuasive, must be used to implement any change.
