to forgive the person who hurt them. This paper discusses forgiveness and why it is so important. Discussion The student can use any example from his life, either trivial or
serious, as long as it made enough of an impression that he couldnt simply let it go. Perhaps someone copied from his paper and got them both in trouble. Perhaps
a friend went after the girl he was seeing. Perhaps someone hit him in the hall, thinking he was someone else. Perhaps, knowing it was wrong and knowing how much
it would hurt his parents, he smoked pot. Whatever it is, it has to be so serious that he needs either to forgive or be forgiven for it. Once he
explains the incident, he can then explain why forgiveness is so important. It isnt a frivolous matter: "To be whole, we must be willing to forgive other and ask others
to forgive us" (Adams and Robotham, 1991). The importance of forgiveness lies more in what it does for the person who forgives, than for the person who receives forgiveness. If
we are in some kind of emotional pain, it is important to learn to forgive. It doesnt matter what the wrong was, either. We may have had an alcoholic parent,
an unfaithful lover, been abused, hurt by a friend, or suffered through any number of terrible things, but only if we forgive the person who caused the hurt can we
move on with our own lives (Adams and Robotham, 1991). The alternative to being unable to forgive is to "create a blockage in your life-a low-grade anger that permeates your
