with the leg braces he wore as a youngster led to peers teasing and bullying him until a football coach saw him and gets Forest a scholarship to the University
of Alabama. His best friend during childhood was Jenny, a girl he loved throughout his life. As close as they were during childhood, they took vastly different life paths
during the counter-culture era of Vietnam when Forest joined the service and Jenny became a free-loving drug addict. At that time, during the late 1940s and 1950s when Forest would
have been in school, special education did not offer the services it offers today. During the 1950s, a child like Forest would have been scheduled into a special class for
the retarded. Forests mother prevents this placement from happening; Forest attended regular classes. The special education laws at the time were not especially beneficial to students but they had improved
over total segregation of children with disabilities. It was around the same time that parents and professionals began demanding better services. For instance, it was in 1950 that the National
Association for Retarded Citizens was organized (Education Encyclopedia, 2006). In the 1960s, parents became even stronger in their demands. that parents of children with disabilities began demanding different and better
services for their children. The movie "Ray" begins in 1948 when Ray Charles was 17 and beginning his music career and follows Ray through 1979. The movie reveals some
