schizophrenia, a condition that has many scientists intrigued and bemused. It is also a subject that has the general public intrigued as well as frightened. A recent news story that
has involved the condition of schizophrenia is that which involved Ted Kaczynski, the unabomber. His story is one that serves to illustrate some of the conditions of schizophrenia and offers
us a very real and personal look into the realities of the condition as it involves forensic mental science. In the following paper we examine the forensic mental science field
as it relates to conditions such as schizophrenia, and then discuss the case of Ted Kaczynski as it relates to forensic mental science. Forensic Mental Science In its
most basic subject consideration, "Forensic Science is any aspect of science as it relates to the law....just about any area of science could be called into question in a court
of law" (Anonymous Forensic Science Web Page, 2002; forsone.htm). As it relates to the issue of forensic psychiatry and profiling, the same author states that "The first category involves
mental illness and disorder, what creates mental illness and disorder, and its diagnosis and treatment. The other category involves profiling, in which an investigator can examine certain crime scenes to
come up with a personality profile of the offender" (Anonymous Forensic Science Web Page, 2002; forsone.htm). It is interesting to note that people who have schizophrenia are not always
