physical evidence generated by criminal activity" ("Part One: Introduction" 4). Joe Keenan, a forensic scientist for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, indicates that the "role of the forensic scientist
is twofold" (Keenan). These criminologists collect and analyze physical evidence that is found on a victim and also at a crime scene and then provide scientific analysis of this evidence
for possible connections to a defendant or to whoever may have committed the crime (Keenan). At trial, they offer expert testimony concerning their analyses (Keenan). At experts in their field,
forensic scientists are obligated to remain current on the latest techniques of analysis and on research information. Methods used by forensic scientists to examine physical evidence Due to the
broad range of scientific knowledge that is encompassed by forensic science, there are numerous areas of specialization and each one has its own methods and procedures. For example, a typical
procedure is to analyze blood or other body fluids for the presence of alcohol. This type of evidence usually pertains to cases involving impaired driving (Keenan). In regards to biology,
