someone needs their help. The main characters represent different cultures. Mei is a lawyer of Chinese heritage, Andy is a Britain who becomes Meis boyfriend, and Eugene is from Singapore
but lives in the Netherlands. Interestingly, each narrates the story at different times. The foreign bodies from the title refers to secrets, such as Meis secret that as a child,
she was raped by her father. One theme of the book is that redemptions requires people to air and acknowledge their darkest secrets, their foreign bodies. In this
startling case, the person who needs help is a friend of a friend, a British man teaching in Singapore. He is accused of masterminding a very clever and global soccer
gambling ring. The court system in Singapore still operates under very old and odd rules that do not give the accused any degree of safety or security. Speedy trials are
taken so seriously, this lawyer has just nine days to clear her boyfriends name and prove he is innocent. To help with the case, they call on a lifelong friend
of the boyfriend who was born in Singapore but is now living in Holland to help them find the truth. And, thereby, Pandoras box is opened and the trio faces
all sorts of unsettling events. This is a fictional account but it brings into play very real issues faced by todays population. The investigation causes the trio to look at
their own deeply-held beliefs and their own spiritual framework by which they live. Secrets are unearthed that challenge the characters right to their cores. And, they look at these secrets
