and he says what he means. He can be authoritative when the situation calls for it but he is also collaborative. With certain aspects of the companys operations, he relies
completely on the experts. He is a learner and is self-confident enough to praise competitors. He does his homework in order to learn facts and gather insight. This would all
suggest that Mulally is a transformational leader but he also is a situational leader. This suggestion is based on a comment about Mulallys leadership being results oriented and his management
being "crisp and authoritative" (American Power, 2009) but he defers to others who have expertise, such as design experts (American Power, 2009). Taylor (2009) reported that when he went
to interview Mulally, Mulally presented him with a binder full of articles reporting interviews with him since he took over Ford. He also gave Taylor his opinions about articles Taylor
had written about Ford and even about Boeing, which is where Mulally was before he became Fords CEO. Mulally is thorough. This new CEO wrote a new mission statement
for the company, had it printed on plastic cards and gave it to all employees (Taylor, 2009). A clear mission statement that is known throughout the company is a first
step for an effective leader. On the reverse side of that card were goals Mulally wrote: "One Ford, One Team, One Plan, One Goal" (American Power, 2009; Vlasic, 2008). This
act also fits under the umbrella of a transformational leader. He reports that he loves to tackle big jobs, like developing Boeings 777 Dreamliner airliner and now, saving Ford (Taylor,
