newly developed facet of cultivating food. Numbering as many as five hundred thousand in population, foraging Aboriginal people settled into Australia in the
year 1788; separated into anywhere between five hundred and nine hundred tribes, their linguistic capacity spanned many hundreds of tongues. These clans were well adept at their hunter-gatherer techniques,
utilizing their distinct territorial divisions as a means by which to determine what types of edibles are collected where and at what time of year. These pieces of land
represented the Aborigines respective estates, however, while each clan held possession of its own land, the foragers were permitted to gather food on the land held by other clans that
may not have any affiliation with their people. This was a rather unique arrangement when it comes to examining the intricate aspects of foraging societies, inasmuch as the standard
throughout history is for each community to hold fast to its land space and the food it would make available, inasmuch as that was often all the resident population would
