Fast Horse. The following paper compares and contrasts the two individuals. Fools Crow and Fast Horse In the beginning of the novel we are presented with Fast Horse who
is a very eager and somewhat noble young man. However, he experiences a dream which makes him believe he will be powerful. But with the dream he is essentially ridiculed
and he will forever blame the spirit world for his inability to become the keeper of the beaver medicine bundle. Fast Horse could have been a very powerful and enlightened
individual but he was arrogant and assuming and seems to grow more and more bitter as the book goes on. In the beginning of the story Fools Crow is
actually named White Mans Dog and he has no respect and no future. Everyone in his tribe belittles him and he feels that he is forever ignored by the spirit
world. He tries very hard to be accepted but in the beginning this will not happen. From this we see that both young men want something from life. They want
the favor of the spirit world, of the gods, and yet they both approach it differently. Fast Horse is presumptuous and arrogant while White Mans Dog is humble and determined.
In addition, when Fast Horse has a dream, thus connecting with the spirit world, he is then ridiculed like White Mans Dog. This makes him turn from the tribe and
