of sticky notes from her desk drawer, she jotted down a few notes on three of them, tearing each from the pad as it was completed and sticking it on
the front of the three manila folders that lay on the desk before her. By the time she returned to her desk at six oclock the next morning, she
knew that these three files would be completed and replaced with whatever tasks her coworker, a university student who only worked for the company part-time until she completed her college
course work, had not completed by six oclock today. Just as she finished affixing the last note to the last folder, her coworker entered the door, fresh from her last
class of the day and precisely on schedule. After a brief exchange of greetings and current information pertaining to the tasks at hand, the first worker was out the
door and on her way home. She would arrive just as the school bus dropped her children, ages six and seven, at the door her husband had ushered them
through at seven-thirty that morning just before he left home for work. The hands on the clock read exactly two oclock p.m. The working mother had just
logged in a productive eight-hour day without the costly burden and emotional worries of contracted day care for her children. The part-time worker had just completed a full days
college course load of classes and prepared to devote the next four hours of her time to a job that allowed her the hours necessary to pursue her degree while
still maintaining her job with the company. At the end of the day, both workers will have reached their daily goal of balancing employment with outside obligations and commitments
