Grandmother tries to convince the misfit not to kill her, the student will then want to discuss how Grandmothers ultimate death on an insignificant side road is an unfortunate occurrence
that one might misconstrue as reflecting her own fall from grace. It is because of her distraction with evil - the Misfit, whom she deems is a quality and
upstanding person - that her life ends up the way it does. Her untimely death is a clear indication of how the author links her demise to the demise
of society for failing to make the changes she believes ought to be made. However, it is interesting how the Misfit, who is an escaped convict the Grandmother warns
her son to be careful of, turns out to be the one entity in her life with whom she can relate her Christianity, ultimately illustrating how she was, indeed, the
recipient of grace. How ironic that the most evil inspiration becomes the most divine in her heart, even though she is well aware of his sordid past. Before
she ever comes in contact with the Misfit, she shuns his evilness by declaring "I wouldnt take my children in any direction with a criminal like that aloose in it.
