those disorders. A number of personality models have emerged over the years. They usually involve traits or dimensions of personality. One of the more recent models of personality to emerge is the Five Factor Model. Because the factors are broad, this model is often referred to as the Big 5. The Five Factor Model of personality intends to describe personality. The five factors emerged from a great deal of previous research, debate among professionals, and experimenting with proposals and suggestions. The five factors are: Neuroticism (N), Extraversion (E), Openness to Experience (O), Agreeableness (A) and Conscientiousness (C). In this model, these five are believed to be the building blocks of the personality (Engeser & Langens, 2010). The following provides a description of each of the five factors: * Extraversion is a trait that is related to the tendency for a person to be active, outgoing, and interested in events and other people. The opposite would be introversion. People high in extraversion are viewed as being social, friendly, talkative while a low level would make this person seem withdrawn or even private. * Agreeableness is associated with the tendency to be trusting, trustworthy, and kind. It is about how well a person gets along with others. An individual with a high degree of agreeableness would be seen as good natured, sympathetic, tolerant, and courteous. A low degree of agreeableness would make teamwork very hard for this person. * Conscientiousness refers to the degree to which a person considers others when making decisions. Dependability plays a strong role in this factor. People who are high in conscientiousness tend to be organized and focused on achieving goals.
