Knife Gun by Geoffrey Canada Canadas book is separated into three different sections with many chapters in each section. There is the first part, titled Codes of Conduct, which possesses
chapters one through nine. The second part is A Matter of Time and consists of chapters ten through fourteen. The last section is titled The Best Way We Know How
and possesses chapter fifteen through twenty-five. This first section deals with his early childhood and as the title suggests it talks about how one needed to conduct themselves if
they were to survive in the inner city. It also talks about the code of conduct concerning how people behaved and lived. He begins the chapter with: "I was probably
four when I first became aware of violence. We were living in the Bronx on Cauldwell Avenue. My mother, my three brothers, and I in a small apartment. My father
lived there for some small portion of that early part of my life but he was not a strong presence in our family....He left us" (3).
