afore mentioned influences on personal understanding is intended to aid the student researching this topic in formulating a personal response to the assignment prompt to state his/her personal understanding.
Function of the ordained ministry: Ordained ministers are "ordained to a ministry of word, sacrament and pastoral care as part of the one Order of Ministry in the United Church
of Canada" (UCC, 2010a). This ministry typically occurs within the context of serving a congregation for which the "ordained minister empowers the people of God, teaches, leads worship, preaches, and
administers the sacraments and rites of the church" (UCC, 2010a). Ministers also provide a representative function to the community at large in their personal "witness to the faith of Jesus
Christ" (UCC, 2010a). The UCC asserts that ministry is not limited to the ordained ministry, but rather is the work of the all of the people of God, as
the UCC believes in "the priesthood of all believers," which essentially means that every Christian should feel that he or she is invited to share in the ongoing ministry of
Jesus Christ to the world (UCC, 2007, p. 7). Through baptism, each person is called to some personal expression of ministry, as in every vocation, it is possible to enrich
the lives of others through professions and acts of Christian faith. The UCC relies on members who are willing to accept leadership positions within the community of faith. These members
