stacked in the favor of big businesses when it comes to procuring financing. The reasons for this are numerous, and in many cases, the reasoning just comes down to the
fact that bigger businesses are generally perceived as more stable and apt to produce a return on investment. To be sure, as the late 1990s and early 2000s taught us,
small businesses can indeed take advantage of venture capital and put it to successful use, but outside of a bubble economy such as that one, small businesses may find themselves
in dire competition to prove their worth to investors. With competition naturally quite fierce for the limited capital available, small firms will be best served to seek out other avenues
of funding themselves, at least until the point that theyre able to successfully get funding through a public offering - something that is a long way off for many. That
said, however, what funding options do exist? What is a small firm to do if it hopes to acquire capital in times of financial constraint? This paper will seek to
answer that question, by first presenting an analysis of the field of entrepreneurial finance, followed by a look at the specifics of the relationship between small firms and lenders in
