its first real growth spurt following the war and, at that time, the relationship between the film and television industries was one of antagonism (Butler, 2002). TV, the new upstart
medium, was regarded by the film industry as stealing "cinemas customers and undermining the studio system" (Butler, 2002, p. 14). However, television needed narrative product, which is something that the
film industry can provide and, rather than continued rivalry, the two industries are now symbiotic, with many film studios also operating television production facilities (Butler, 2002). There are naturally many
similarities between the two media. Film is the medium that is preferred by the vast majority of cameramen and production personnel (Mitchell, 2004). This is due to the fact
that 35 mm film has an excellent contrast range and resolution. In film for TV, there are 24 pictures shown per second. When film is transferred to video "each frame
is used twice, once for each field," which means that "each frame of video represents only one instant in time" (Mitchell, 2004, p. 13). This system offers a nice approximation
of the "projection of film in a theatre where the two fields of each frame represents a frozen moment in time" (Mitchell, 2004, p. 13). Butler (2002) points out
that films made for the theater and film made for TV (i.e., movies of the week) share similarities in that they both tend to revolve around a single protagonist, with
