be seeing. Erin Brockovich, which is the true story of a twice-divorced, unemployed woman with three kids, with a grand total of $74 in the bank. After a
humiliating job interview, she is involved in a car accident, files an unsuccessful lawsuit, before finally securing menial work at the law office of Ed Masry, the attorney who had
lost her case. During the course of her employment, Brockovich learns of a cover-up regarding a Southern California power plant and contaminated water, which has been responsible for health
problems for citizens drinking from the water supply, which range "from nosebleeds to cancer" (Bohnert Erin Brockovich). This film hardly sounds like a laugh-a-minute comedy, and is why many
reviewers have classified it as a drama. However, the film genre of comedy encompasses many styles. There is, of course, the most basic slapstick or farcical comedy, which usually
involves a pie in the face or the infliction of pain for laughs. There is also the black comedy, or satire, which pokes fun at what might otherwise be
regarded as a very unfunny subject, such as death. There is also the romantic comedy, where the subject is usually opposites attracting and situations in which two people who
initially dislike each other eventually fall in love. The screwball comedy is, as its name implies, a way of inverting situations for laughs, such as the Depression era films
