In Ulees Gold director Victor Nunez transitions the role of hero from the battlefield to the home front.
The movie is more about life than about film, it shows the quite approach of a taciturn man who chooses to live his life in the solace of the Tupelo
swamps of North Florida. It concentrates on quietness and solitude rather than on the gore and violence that we have come to expect from Hollywood. "Ulees Gold" voices
the sureness and emotional force that we have come to expect from Victor Nunez who has continually charmed viewers with his ability to find interest and awe in ordinary life.
Starring Peter Fonda, Ulees Gold is the story of a widowed Vietnam veteran turned beekeeper and primary caregiver for his two grandchildren whose
father is in prison for robbery and whose mother is a drug addict who doesnt exhibit many social responsibilities. The plot of Ulees Gold revolves around the responsibility of
taking care of what it is your responsibility to take care of. Fonda, as Ulee Jackson, nurtures the bees as he cares for his grandchildren but at the same
time keeping them at arms reach. While he approaches the hives surely and unhesitantly, braving the stings as he may receive them much as he bears the stings of
life, he approaches his grandchildren much more cautiously, fending blows before they are received and protecting his own emotions sometimes at the cost of theirs.
