Von Huben 4/2010 Please Introduction Al Gore is blessed with great intelligence and a very dry wit; he has also been a concerned environmentalist since before it was "cool." This paper discusses one of the issues raised in his award-winning film, An Inconvenient Truth. Discussion A word about the film: Al Gore introduces himself by saying "I used to be the next President of the United States," a nod to the phrase that was always used to introduce him during his presidential campaign (An Inconvenient Truth). The audience laughs at this, to which he responds, "I dont find that particularly funny." Despite the fact that Mr. Gore won the popular vote but lost the presidency, he refrains from turning the film into an attack on the Bush administration and keeps political comments to a minimum. Instead, he presents his findings clearly and concisely, in the hope that people will finally begin to take global warming seriously, something he contends they have yet to do. He says hes been trying to get the message out for a long time, and feels that hes failed. But then, he reflects, if politicians of both parties admitted that global warming was real, they would have a "moral imperative" to do something about it, and it may seem overwhelming and beyond anyones ability to solve.
