preparation, discipline, training, and experience to finely hone. Like all types of acting, film acting is also an art form, perhaps "the most popular of all the arts, and
yet it is the one about which there is the least formal and organized knowledge" (Strickland 1). An aspiring film actor or actress does not automatically begin a career
on celluloid. Usually, training begins on the stage either in school or college plays or in community theater productions (Strickland 3). Acting on television and in commercials is
also a great training ground as well. But regardless of where a film performer begins to train and gain experience, education is always the most critical component because acting
is a technique that develops raw talent through study. In Russia during the 1920s, Konstantin (or Constantin) Stanislavsky (or Stanislavski) developed what considered to be "the fountainhead of
modern acting theory" (McTeague 2). It is a completely "actor-centered" technical approach that was later explored in the United States in the experimental Group Theatre, out of which emerged
a separate entity entitled the Strasberg Method after its founder, Lee Strasberg (McTeague 6). The Strasberg Method is taught at New Yorks celebrated Actors Studio, and emphasizes the importance
on emotion memory, which enables an actor to connect with a role by revealing "the source of all true emotion, the unconscious" (McTeague 6). Stanislavsky and Strasberg believed that
an actor or actress can only give a convincing performance if he or she is able to emotionally connect to the truth, which can be achieved from using personal experiences
