Essay / Research Paper Abstract
Windows is said to give programmers certain advantages over UNIX, particularly in the area of usability. However, Kirch (1999) refutes this statement, stating that UNIX offers a GUI interface and all the Windows advantages. According to Kirch, the reason the myth lives on is an unsolved mystery since there is no evidence that programming in Windows is any different from programming in UNIX. However, there is evidence of differences in the file processing functions between the two products, which only proves, as in all things, each system has its advantages. Windows is any different from programming in UNIX. However, there is evidence of differences in the file processing functions between the two products, which only proves, as in all things,
each system has its advantages. Windows has certain file processing functions that are missing in UNIX. For example, in Windows you can make
many selections from the directories, folders, menus, submenus, and icons that are not available in UNIX. The file processing capabilities you have
in Windows that do not exist in UNIX can be expressed simply in the form of object oriented programs. Objects allow for quick changeout to allow great flexibility in programming
that is not possible in UNIX. Yet this is only a theoretical quick change. The problem with object oriented programming is the file
sizes continuously get larger, and they must interact with one another in order to work. This requires huge memory in both RAM and ROM storage, as well as processing timing
glitches and program sequence testing, analysis and correction in the programming process before the software can be released. Object handling also contributes to the problem of security.
The student may want to state that security is one of the points at which the two programs diverge significantly. Although Windows XP has the
capability of hiding a computer from the Internet through its control panel, and you can pretty much guarantee the safety of a computer from hacking if a firewall and an
