interdisciplinary unit on the general topic of the weather will incorporate math, earth science, writing, geography, reading and computer skills. The unit further meets California standards in that it requires cooperative team work, problem solving and critical thinking. The weather is a frequent topic of conversation among children and adults but few have an understanding of the many different aspects of the weather. This unit will provide students with knowledge about a number of events and factors associated with the weather. Students will learn to compare patterns and gain an understanding of specific kinds of events. Lesson 1: Temperature - Here and Across the World Outcomes: Students will gain an appreciation for the vastly different types of weather in the world and they will be able to describe the differences between and among three regions in the world. Students will compare temperatures in three cities on three separate continents. Activities: * Students will use local media to collect high and low temperatures daily for one week for their own home city/town [Reading, listening, math, earth science]. * Students will use the Web site www.weather.com to collect high and low temperatures for two cities, such as New Delhi and Moscow [Information/computer technology, reading, analyzing, earth science, geography].
