Enterprises Inc. By - properly! On Thursday evening, July 7, 2011, I observed a meeting
of the School Board, which was highly attended by students, teachers, parents and even grandparents, as well as the board members, assistant superintendent and school superintendent. Those present were Gary
Perceful, Oma Jean Copeland, Dr. Lana Turner-Addison, Anna America, Brian Hunt, Ruth Ann Fate, and Lois Jacobs. Additional members present were Larry Smith, Dr. Keith Ballard, and Robert F. Burton,
Sr. COS. and Oliver Wallace. The meeting was held at the Education Service Center, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. Stragglers continued to come in up to 6:30, but as the
meeting started, the room was quite full with an audience that was primarily concerned over a proposed extension of the school day.
The proposal before the board is to change the daily bell schedule so that the school day is 15 minutes longer. The elementary schools would start its day at 7:45
am and secondary schools would start at either 8:15 or 8:45 am. The final vote on this issue will occur on July 18, with the school board again meeting at
6:00 pm. The reason for the 15 minute change to the school day was so that the schools in the district could have seven fewer days in the school academic
