to worry about me. I will be fine. I have found a job as a maid and America has been good to me so far. When I left Ireland, there
was a sense of scarcity (Scally, 1996). As I live and work in America, I have a sense of hope. So first, I do not want you to fret about
my journey, but to understand that while I am not settled right now, I will have a good life here. The trip was not uneventful. The voyage was rough. The
seas were very choppy at times and I did get sick sometimes, but other people were sick too. One of the men said I have to develop sea legs but
I dont know if I can. Anyway, the cheaper fare to Canada was the only way I could get here, even though a ticket directly to New York would have
been easier ("The Irish," n.d.). Mum, I know you do not like the idea of taking a big boat, but when I earn enough money, I would like you and
