feminist theorists of today is on the oppression of women as a result of the belief that gender is entirely based on biology and not environment. Psychoanalysis and feminism promotes
the understanding of ones self and that individuals place in todays society. The ability to understand the potential that an individual may have based only on ones self allows that
individual more opportunities and life choices. For the last 100 years there have been two approaches to the history of the oppression of females. One is based on
Freudian thought and the other is the evolving feminist perspectives most prevalent in the United States. Feminism and in particular psychoanalytic feminism theories have contributed to changes in culture by
categorizing the importance of being self aware of gender and gender differences. The psychoanalytic feminist theorists have demonstrated the significant connection between psychoanalysis and feminism. This evolving understanding
of self and the ability to become more than what is expected of you based on your gender is a major factor which has caused changes in the culture of
America. To explain further, analytic feminism applies analytic concepts and methods to the issues of feminists and at the same time applies feminist
concepts and insight to issues that previously were only of interest to analytic philosophers. Analytic feminists want clarity and precision when they present an argument. Analytic feminists also
recognize sexism which they define as practices that take women and feminine things to be inferior to men and masculine things. Analytic feminists fight the misconceptions of male domination
and female inferiority by analyzing those issues which may lead to these gender misconceptions. Most analytic feminists are scholars in the academic fields of philosophy, sociology and biology.
