authority to intervene in domestic matter, it is only in the last few decades that rape within marriage has been accepted. There are many issues that can be considered, however,
from a feminist perspective it can be seen as endemic of a patriarchal society. that there is an unacceptably high level of violence against women due the social structure
though a patriarchal system, in the police that is backed up and works with the legislature and judicial system as well as society as a whole. Furthermore, the control over
the system is increased by control of knowledge by the men in the countries such as the UK. Before we can consider this we need to define what we mean
by violence and women. The definition of women is simple, in terms of this paper we will define a woman as a natural born female who is over the age
of sixteen at the time the violence takes place. The definition of what we mean by violence may be more difficult to define as well as measure. Violence and
abuse is a wide ranging topic, physical violence may be seen as usually assumed to be included, however in many cases it can be seen that women themselves will exclude
some types of physical violence due to the nature of the violence. In many cases where a survey into violence is carried out it has been found that domestic violence
