will be in any particular movie. Some films are considered "chick flicks," meaning they are movies intended for a female audience, and others may be deemed a "guy movie," indicating
it a film about subjects men like. In many ways one could well assume that a chick flick has feminist tones, and a guy movie is one that will likely
not have feminist tones. THESIS: The following paper argues that feminism is still alive in films, despite the fact that there are many films which clearly represent women as less
than strong. Feminism in Movies: Dead or Alive? In examining if feminism is alive in movies today we first look at
the top grossing movies of 2005. They are as follows: Star Wars: Episode III, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, The Chronicles of Narnia, War of the Worlds, King
Kong, Wedding Crashers, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Batman Begins, Madagascar, and Mr. & Mrs. Smith (IMdb, 2006). For the most part one can see that these films do not
seem to be films aimed at men or women in particular, but they are generally films that do not necessarily present a lot of feminism. Star Wars presents us with
a woman who is a leader of her people, and yet her role is reduced to love and childbearing. War of the Worlds does not have any significant women characters,
and the one that is introduced in the beginning and the end is simply the ex-wife who is pregnant and a mother. King Kong presents a woman who is clearly
an object. Interestingly enough, Batman Begins has a woman that comes in and out of the film, and truly stands for what she believes in. While her character is
