the following paper first presents an examination of how women are depicted in the films "Babettes Feast," "Top Gun," "Sanjuro," and "The Birds." The paper then discusses the element of
materialism in "City Lights," "Citizen Kane," "O Brother, Where Art Thou," and the Miami Vice episode titled "Trust Fund Pirates." Feminine Perspective "Babettes Feast" is essentially the story
of one woman who chooses, with the help of political force, to move away from being a powerful chef in a city. She moves to the country where she looks
after a couple of old spinster women, where she rarely gets to use her skills as a truly amazing chef. "When she wins the lottery, she decides to celebrate by
throwing a huge dinner party for all the entire village....The portrayal of Babettes preparations for the event and the care she takes in creating the feast, are as gloriously studied
as the consumption of the food itself" (Anonymous Babettes G?stebud, 2002; babettesfeast.htm). Interestingly enough, the author, a woman, "was in the late stages of the syphilis she had contracted from
her husband, and knew herself to be near death. Her digestive system had been destroyed by the disease, and, in intense pain and unable to eat, she dictated her story
