level. In examining cash flows important to look at the net profits. Net profit can be measured in a number of ways, these are the earnings after all costs have
been deducted, and may be assessed either before or after interest and/or tax. As interest is in operating cost we will use the net profit before tax as a measure.
In 2007 this was $3,215 million, compared to $2,899 million in 2006 (FedEx, 2007). In order to make comparisons it is not
only the net profit that should be looked at, but the net profit margin. This is the net profit expressed as a proportion of the total revenue. It is showing
a slight improvement, with the net profit margin being 9.1% in 2007 can pay to 9% in 2006 (FedEx, 2007). It is worth noting that this is well above the
industry average is, with the industry average pre-tax margin being 3.8% (MSN Money, 2008). When looking at cash flows the income
generation profit levels are only part of those cash flows. Cash comes into and out of the company through a number of routes, including the raising of capital funds through
