clearly affect the level of juvenile delinquency that exists as well. There are many reasons for this. Many young people join gangs in order to feel they belong to a
family of sorts. They are accepted and embraced in their gang and they feel a sense of home and family that cannot be equaled in many of their real homes.
They are willing to do anything for that family, much of the actions involving crime and criminal activity. These are some of the realities involving juveniles and gangs. The following
paper examines one aspect of how gangs affect a certain group of young people, those who are fatherless. The paper summarizes and examines the article "The danger of disconnection.(social aspects
of fatherless boys)" by Larry K. Brendtro and Nicholas J. Long. Danger of Disconnection The article begins by illustrating how it has long been understood that young boys without
fathers have always been at risk for gang involvement, and thus for delinquent behavior and criminal behavior. The article then illustrates how one particular theorist, years ago, argued that the
society itself had led to a position where children were suffering from a disrupted sense of belonging in a community. They indicate that in the past youth were mentored and
helped by community members, family members, churches and many other aspects of community. But as society became more complex there was no one to whom children could turn, as they
had in days of old. The article then indicates that young fatherless boys have always sought out gangs when they are in a situation in the city where gangs
