known that the United States is one of the most obese nations in the world. It has become such a problem that it also affects many children in the nation
as well. There are many reasons for this. For example, many blame the empty calorie snack foods such as chips and processed foods that people buy in the grocery store.
There is also the problem of people doing too much sitting, whether at the computer or the television. But, while there are many reasons why Americans are obese, one of
the main reasons appears to be fast food. The following paper examines and article by CBS News that illustrates how fast food has truly influenced the obesity rate among children,
and adults, in the nation. Fast Food and Obesity One author notes, in relationship to obesity statistics almost a decade ago,
how "It is estimated that as many as one in five Americans is obese...obesity rates for children have doubled over the past 20 years, and overweight children are being diagnosed
with obesity-related illnesses such as diabetes, sleep apnea and respiratory illnesses that in the past have only afflicted adults" (Murphy, 2000). While this is information that was provided almost ten
