When considering the implication of e-commerce for fast food outlets the applications may not be as apparent due to the nature of the goods. They do not have a shelf life of days; in many cases not even hours. The goods need to be sold rapidly before the product deteriorates, however this does not mean eCommerce has no influence on fast food. Looking at the way that e-commerce has impacted on fast food there are a number of influences, most of these will impact on the cash flow in the short and the long term, requiring investment and often resulting in a greater revenue, this may or may not increase the profit margins, but may increase over all profits. It is only by looking at the way these influences may be exerted that the impact can be considered, first we need to define what is meant by e-commerce and then look at the way it may impact in fast food companies E-commerce is defined by the American Heritage Dictionary (2000), as "Commerce that is transacted electronically, as over the Internet".
